Part-Time Hyperbaric Technician Position Available

Position Summary:

The Hyperbaric Oxygen Technician will work under the direction and supervision of the Medical Director or Supervisor, who determines and supervises patient treatment and directs the hyperbaric program. The Hyperbaric Technician prepares the patient for treatment, reinforces patient education for hyperbaric therapy, keeps complete and accurate patient treatment documentation, performs hyperbaric chamber operations and system maintenance as required, and is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chambers and related support systems.
Required Education/Training:

High School graduate required. Must hold current NYS BLS certification with minimum six (6) months experience as EMT/RRT.
Required Experience/Skills:

The ideal candidate has knowledge of basic diving physics. Ability to recognize acute side effects of hyperbaric oxygen treatments. Experience with operation monoplace chambers preferred, but not required. Must be available to work outside of regularly scheduled hours, if needed (i.e., nights and weekends). Must have ability to lift 25 lbs. Computer skills are necessary.

Duties:

-Prepare patient for HBO treatments including appropriate orientation

-Safely prepare the hyperbaric chambers for patient treatments

– Safe operation of hyperbaric chambers

-Follow all hyperbaric procedures, protocols, and physician orders

-Accurately assess and document patient vital signs

-Accurately document treatment in patient medical record

-Maintain communication with patient before, during, and after hyperbaric treatment

-Clean chambers and treatment room using appropriate techniques

– Maintain daily and periodic equipment maintenance documentation

-Communicate with nursing and physician regarding daily operations and any abnormal findings

-Transport patient to and from unit safely, when needed

– Knowledge of Infection Control and Regulatory Standards, including HIPAA

-Educate patient and family regarding hyperbaric oxygen therapy and ensure understanding

-Attend staff meetings and participate in quality assurance program

-Maintain competencies, continuing education and certifications, as appropriate

-Maintain accurate chamber maintenance log books

-Attend monthly drills as required for Barotrauma, Pneumothorax, Seizure, Cardiac Arrest and Fire

Under the direction of the Program Director, the individual in this position will act as the outside attendant and control operator during clinical treatment using monoplace hyperbaric (HBOT) chambers.  The individual accepts responsibility and accountability for working within the framework of appropriate regulatory body where it applies and follows all Paradigm, wound care, and hospital policies and procedures.  The individual will comply with hospital and nursing philosophy and standards while performing job duties and responsibilities and will demonstrate competence in these essential functions.

Requirements

Must possess at least one of the following qualifying vocational licenses:  Respiratory Therapist, Diver Medic, Physician Assistant, Corpsman, Medical Service Specialist,  EMT,  Paramedic, Registered Nurse,  LVN/LPN,  Physician,  Certified Nurse Aide, Certified Medical Assistant,  Physiologist, Medical Researcher, or Others approved on a case by case basis, with a current CHT (Certified Hyperbaric Technologist) and Safety Officer certificates.

Must be a CHT for a minimum of one year or more

Safety Director experience for at least one year

Ability to lift and transfer patients into the Hyperbaric Chamber

Knowledgeable regarding various accrediting and regulatory agencies, such as NFPA, UHMS, and JCAHO

Excellent organizational and communication skills required, Good computer skills, BCLS Certified, Experience working in a comprehensive wound care center a plus.

 Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, nursing or other health related field

CAROLINA HYPERBARICS is a new Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Clinic opening late June, 2011 in  Raleigh, NC.  We are currently seeking a credentialed and experienced full time Hyperbaric Tech/Safety Director to manage the day to day therapy at this new clinic.  

The successful candidate should be able to provide patient consultations to determine patient need, take medical history and vitals to determine fitness for treatment, and administer hyperbaric therapy.  Therapy will be prescribed by our Medical Director, a leading family physician experienced in HBO.

Essential Job Functions:.

  • Manage/supervise all aspects of the Hyperbaric Therapy as directed by the Medical Director and Policies and Procedures of the Company.
  • Provide Patient Consultations and Follow-up.
  • Administer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to Patients.
  • Complete the patient’s treatment charges on a daily basis.
  • Perform data entry into the Clinical Data System.
